Procrastination

In college, you can't do very much of it.

However, I have learned a little tidbit of information about myself. I write my best essays when I leave them until the last minute. For some reason, I can whip those bad boys out so fast when I'm freaking out cause they're due the next morning. But they aren't crappy essays, oh no. They turn out better than if I spend all day on them.

Also, its definitely less stressful to do it this way. When I leave essays until the last minute, I don't have time to get distracted and I'm in the zone, so I'm completely focused on the essay and nothin is gonna stop me from finishing it. But if I start it earlier, then I spend hours and hours focusing and re-focusing on the task ahead, and not getting anywhere.

Like last night for example. I completely forgot that I had an essay due the next morning for American Heritage until I got off work yesterday. I came home, and what did I do? I got dinner with Kassie, went to Despicable Me with some peeps from my ward, took a shower, and watched an episode of the Office....all before starting my essay. I then started my essay at about 1:30 in the morning, and was done by 2. And it's a DANG good essay. I re-read it this morning, made a few corrections, and patted myself on the back for a job well-done and an evening well-spent.

Just sayin.

Also, I would like to make the clarification that this method does NOT work for any other type of homework. All other homework I have to finish in advance. This only works for essays.

Ode To Psych

Just because the show makes me laugh so hard...this post is entirely dedicated to some of the best quotes from over the seasons. Enjoy.

Lassie: "I need to get something off my chest."
Shawn: "Is it your shirt? Please say No!"

Shawn: "Cleaning my clock, what's that suppose to even mean?? What, you take time out of your day to clean another man's timepiece? And if so, how could that be a bad thing? No! I'd be gracious, I'd be like, dude, J.P. thanks for spritzing my watch."

Shawn: "I've been having this recurring dream where I'm flying over Auckland on the back of a swan made primarily of cocoa. His name is Clem."

Gus: Don't you watch the news?
Shawn: I can't watch Channel 8 anymore. Lloyd Lansing wears a toupee. It's like every newscast begins with a lie.

Shawn: Hey buddy, Santa Barbara wanted to give you an award for Exorcist of the Year
Gus: Laugh it up, Shawn, but I know who was right on my tail all the way to the car.
Shawn: I had to be, you were my ride home.
Gus: You were screaming too.
Shawn: Yes, I was screaming 'Gus, stop! Let's be brave!"

Shawn: Wait for iiiiiiit....

Gus: Shawn, what are you doing here?
Shawn: I should ask you the same question!
Gus: I work here!
Shawn: I should ask you a different question.

Henry (Shawn's dad): [leans in really close] Are you busy on Saturday?
Shawn: You - You want me to come with you to awkward class?

Shawn: Good morning detectives! Collecting donations for the Policeman's Ball?
Lassie: We don't have balls.
Shawn: ...I honestly have no response to that.

Shawn: Don't worry, Jules. I'll crack your case like an egg. Then we'll make omelets with shallots... and JUSTICE.

Shawn: I've heard it both ways.

Shawn: Gus, don't be a/n...
  • silly goose
  • crazy hooligan
  • rabid porcupine
  • giant snapping turtle
  • incorrigible Eskimo pie with a caramel ribbon
  • myopic chihuahua
  • this crevice in my arm
  • traveling wilberry

Gus: Make no mistake, Shawn, I will kill you.

Reunions and Good Times

It's almost ridiculous how much I miss some of my high school friends. I miss being surrounded by people that I've spent years getting to know. I miss walking down the halls of school, going around town, or even just showing up at Walmart and seeing a plethora of familiar faces. I miss the kids that come from the same background as me, that have the same standards and the same aims in life. I miss having friends around that already know me for me; who know where I'm coming from and what I'm all about.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to live in the past here. I've met a lot of new people here and I have friends enough. I really am enjoying myself, I promise. However, every once in a while, I find myself really missing some of the goofy personalities that I spent "the good old days" with. Strangely enough, with only a few exceptions, some of the ones I miss the most come from dear old Payson, rather than Salem. I suppose the reason for this is that I have stayed friends with the Payson kids even through the splitting of schools and the intense rivalry, making us close friends now even though many of us live far away from each other.

This weekend was full of reunions and good times with the P-Town crew. We started off with our good friend Nikota Vacher (who graduated from Payson the same year as us) getting married to her missionary. Though there were many who couldn't make it to the reception because of driving distance and such, there were still a lot of old friends and familiar faces there. The reception was one big hug-fest and dance party :) The next day, our dear friends Zachary Quist and Rachelle Whatcott had a combined birthday party. This was especially epic, because not only were most of our Payson buddies there, but since Zac and I hang with the same group at BYU, they came as well. So now they all know each other. Oh, the joys of networking.

Anywho. Great weekend.
